Seriously, people are really friendly. I lived with a local family and they were very kind to me, although I often disagreed with old Francisco's point of view about Fidel's politics.

I encountered the same comments about the locals not being allowed near some tourist sites unless they were working. Thank you for the reminders of my trip! You saw a lot more of Cuba than I did!!
