<font color="#000066"SIZE="+2">
mirhab

I spent just few hours in Damasco; enough to fall in love with the city and the people. I was there at sunset, in time for prayers in the Great Mosque. In the huge, marvellous courtyard women with long, black clothes wandering around; children playing with pigeons; men moving towards the prayer halls; few tourists wearing brown clothes. All seem to be in a state of suspended animation. In the prayer halls, 3.000 carpets, few benches, majestic chandeliers, people were praying, meditating, sleeping, walking or simply sitting and looking around. Peace. Someone were taking pictures, too. I’m not very proud of this one; in some way I think I violated the place, the prayers. However, I wanted some VT people see it and try to feel the atmosphere, try to understand. Stop to believe Muslims are enemies. Back to Damasco in few months. And I had time to visit the city; time to sit sipping a wonderful coffee with cardamon; time to meet some friends. I love this city. |
