Mozart moved to Wohenhaus in 1773, though he was born across town. His father, Leopold Mozart rented a flat here until 1787. This building was badly damaged during World War II and only about 1/3 of the building survived. The Mozarteum International Foundation reconstructed and enlarged it in 1996 enabling the Memorial Museum to be enlarged. The museum also houses a collection of old musical instruments. Self-guided tours are availble here and his birth haus and are well worth it, even for the casual Mozart fan.

As the Mozart fan know's, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on 27 January 1756 in this house. He and his family lived here until 1773.

Castle Hohensalzburg dominates the hill overlooking Salzburg. A citadel stood here since the Roman times, however, work on the defensive complex was begun by Archbishop Gebhardt around 1071. The present appearance is due largely to Leonhard von Keutschach in the early 1500's. Today Hohensalzburg is one the best preserved castles in Europe. You can either take the incline tram up to the castle or if you're the adventurist, you can hike up there. We were somewhere in between, as we took the tram up and hiked down.
