Though surely a Micmac paradise before Britain turned Halifax into a North American military harbor prototype, it is this latter development that lingers in the very soul of this pleasant and unassuming capital of Nova Scotia. With roots in the mid-1700s and a multitude of European influences shaping the genetic make-up of its inhabitants, there is no denying an overriding British feel to this once stronghold of the Queen's Empire. Yet it is decidedly a Maritime city with a people so open and friendly that a small question can lead to perhaps more of an answer than you were looking for. It is not a commanding city by any means, but it is certainly one that seeps into your bones and makes you feel comfortable right from the get go. Nova Scotia's best asset may be an incredible natural landscape but to truly understand its formidable past, Halifax is one city that must be explored. |

BillNJ Sun Apr 6, 2008 19:04 UTC Richie, looks like you managed to have fun even with Hurricane Juan. Fantastic tips and photos! Continental runs weekend specials here, so I may have to check out the Rouge's Roost BrewPub sometime. Cheers from Jersey, Bill | lamsterz Thu Jul 27, 2006 06:57 UTC Hello, that is a mighty nice page you've got! I have a question: from what you perceived, what's the diversity of people like? Thanks! | fairy_dust Mon Dec 20, 2004 04:22 UTC Nice page on Halifax! It's a beautiful city to visit. I experienced Hurrican Juan too, but in Charlottetown, PEI instead. | Kaspian Mon Sep 20, 2004 17:34 UTC Many thanks for the tips on Hailfax! They made a whirlwind weekend an awesome experience. You're right, the Old Burial Ground was my favourite too! |
