Victoria is blessed with a pretty waterfront location at the southern tip of nature-endowed Vancouver Island. It is about as removed a Provincial capitol as you are likely to find and has retained its Commonwealth roots perhaps more strongly than any place in Canada. Many consider it the most English city outside of the United Kingdom. Founded in 1843 as a Hudson Bay Trading Post, its colonial past has been well-preserved and is in a state of constant loving restoration to keep it at a level in line with its glorious past. Its historic downtown is a model for maintaining architectural integrity while keeping everything squeaky clean. Add to this, numerous dining, nightlife, cultural, and shopping opportunities: It is no wonder tourists flock to Victoria and generally rave about it.

I had a good laugh at the dreadful things Canada threw at you in Victoria! Lots of interesting tips, including Craigdarroch Castle & Chinatown's Lee Mong Kow. Excellent restaurant and accoms tips as always & it was interesting to read your take on Canada!

Your usual excellent tips and photos make this another very interesting page, though Victoria looks a bit TOO English to tempt me to visit! I'm beginning to think you're a closet Englishman - cask-conditioned ale AND a curry after the pub!

Cool place, I would think that all towns around here are only Vancouver ;-)

Nice tips from the westernmost point on your journey! I can understand why you might have liked to have some typical Victorian fog, but the blue skies are great for photos.

Oops, another Lucy experience for me :-) Craigdarroch Castle looks fantastic, can I have the windows of entertain room please? Wow, Victoria's Chinatown must be true & authentic China, not torn to death by Maoists as the other one is.
