Myrtle Beach is snidely referred to as the redneck Riviera due to its geographic location in the southern US and the preponderance of condominium buildings that dot its admitted beautiful sandy coastline. Though a tad overbuilt it presents itself well as a most welcoming family resort with every amenity a vacationer could need. But in the end it is not the leisure facilities that are most impressive but the natural beauty of the area itself. White sandy beaches and a clean warm ocean are the hallmarks of Myrtle Beach. More surprising is a fair amount of forest this close to the coast which makes man made attractions pale in comparison.

On pleasure and business I came here over 20 years. Even operated Carolina Shores in Calabash for 2-3 years. Even though way too crowded in summer, the rest of the year is fun and you fit right in to the culture, I found.

Nice job! On grits, you got it part way. To make 'em more flavourful, crumble your bacon up in them. Some folks even mix in their eggs.
Ah, at least you could get out for a while, even if it was short. This place looks divine, I could stay there for ages, given my own "state" at the moment, lol :-)
I love a road trip in the US too (my ambition is to cross the country one day), and also love breakfast out when I'm there though haven't yet developed a taste for grits ;)
Right on Richie, road trips ARE 'freedom' and obviously what you needed for this break! I've driven past there many times but never had the chance to explore, so thanks for showing me what I missed. Hard to beat old friends, great digs and cold beers!
