"The Pittsburgh Choice" Pittsburgh by richiecdisc

Pittsburgh Travel Guide: 750 reviews and 1,888 photos

While Pittsburgh may lack the sights to make it a bona-fide tourist destination, this hard-working town forged of the steel industry of yonder stands as one of the US most livable cities according to a 2005 poll. As an adolescent in the 70s, all I knew about Steel City was it was home to the Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl Champions who seemed to win the big game every year.

I never had much desire to visit Pittsburgh but a few events led to us doing just that. One, it was on our way “back east” from our six-month trip around the western US National Parks, two. I had an old friend that lived there, and finally and maybe unsurprisingly, there were a couple great breweries in town. Now, which one to go to?

Very unusual to have a brewpub in a massive church like that - but interesting! Too bad your pub of choice did not live up to expectations, but at least you were able to reconnect with your old buddy while in Pittsburgh and also enjoy a great meal.

A shame about the Church Beer Works. The setting sounds interesting, but with poor service like that they might as well be in a barn!

Good information about the beer scene in Pittsburgh. Everyone that I have known from Pittsburgh was partial to the local favorite, Iron City.

I guess they must have a lot of "tipsy" history up that way, with the brewery tours. I used to travel there and to the hills for steel impact on the culture. They worked hard to come back to compete for economic growth.

Oh my, some places might just get a bit arrogant over their reputation :-)) But at least you had a great day and that pizza sounds like I could bite in right now :-)
