Silver Falls State Park is a great opportunity to see not only a series of beautiful waterfalls, but also one to see Oregon's splendid temperate rain forest. These incredibly lush dense woods would have likely garnered National Park status if not exploited by loggers in the late 1800s resulting in too many stumps marring the land around what was already recognized as special for the waterfalls' beauty alone. Roosevelt was undeterred and used Civilian Conservation Corps to turn back the tide on the damage done, developing a park without the status. Thankfully, it became a state park and was recently considered once again for National Park status in 2008 but was sadly turned down. Seeing pictures of what once was and spending some time in this stunning forest is a good way to come to understand that our planet is too special a place to continue to desecrate it.

"The waterfalls were a mixed bag with some of the ten not really anything special" If you get a chance, you might want to come back in the late winter or early spring, when snow melt increases the water flow.

Very impressive waterfall photos Richie! What fantastic vistas you had while walking the trail through those beautiful 'softer' forests. Great 'packing list' tip too!!

Next time, just south of Silver Falls out of Sweet Home is McDowell Creek Falls which is another grouping of great waterfalls - as good and not as well known as Silver Falls. Ten Falls trail would be nicer if they allowed little corgis :-]

Great stuff here. I really would love to go back and do some more hiking around that area. I would also like to go when winter falls is running.

WOW, this leaves me speechless! Maybe it is my favourite destination of your trip so far, maybe even more than The Wave. It is always good to listen to locals, lol! Yummm... berries... The scenery is.. breathtakingly beautiful!
