Portland is a city that gets little respect. Lodged between all-world-city San Francisco to the south and hip caffeine-infused Seattle to the north, people lose sight of its many charms that go beyond it being just the city of roses. With a historical downtown full early 1900s architecture, the trendy Pearl District, an elaborate innovative mass transit network, and some fine city parks, Portland is regarded as one of the most livable cities in America. Voted one of the top walking cities in the US, this compact town is perfect tourist fodder as well.
Let's not forget Portland's seminal part in the craft brew revolution and being currently home to a plethora of brewpubs that will make even the most avid beer hunter's head spin. Add to all this the fact that this big city with a small town feel is within a couple hour's drive of incredible nature in the form of alpine mountains, rugged coast, gushing waterfalls, and one vastly deep lake. Portland might not ever be an international destination but that's fine with the locals who would be happy if the growing number of those discovering it would fail to fall under its considerable spell.
When the weather is nice as it was on our three days in Portland, it's hard to imagine a nicer place to live and though our exploration of sights per se was limited, we got a great feel for the town by wandering its pleasing streets and enjoying its brewpub culture, one of its hallmark features. We could have left after one day and saw everything we wound up seeing but we could have spent a month doing the same thing over and over too. In the end, we had to tear ourselves away in envy of the Stumptown natives' little beery paradise.

I always like to pick out a beer or two for myself from your decriptions ;-) Here I think I'll go for a Resurrection Rye or a Hogsback Oatmeal Stout - or perhaps a Black Strap Stout? And a few of those great olives too please ;-)
Another interesting peek into the attractions of Oregon! It looks like a real gem, and I'm glad beautiful Pittock Mansion was saved. Quite the variety of pubs you sampled and the middle eastern meal sounds delicious!
I can tell you love beer, so next time you're in town, visit Hopworks Urban Brewery (HUB). It was started by one of Oregon's first organic brewers and it's the best! Also great happy hour. And I work for a competetor!
Brilliant page, I just have to remember to check your pages only after dinner ;-) (Sport tip is missing, I cannot think of this place without thinking of Bill Walton :)))
Boy you have been busy!! This must have been your favourite place given all the breweries :-) Chocolate beer? Oops..., no but citrus beer for me please! Love the shots of D & roses :-))
No wonder we had such a hard time to leave...reading the page I want to go back there now...but like we say "Man soll gehen wenn es am schoensten ist."
Nice time in PDX;-] Try HUB, Amnesia or Roots Breweries for some of that pre-Bud money which altered Widmer (Gambrinus money at Bridgeport). Little Girl is a fan of the Lucky Lab - though she likes the one in Multnomah since we walk to that one. Cheers!
