Newport Travel Guide: 121 reviews and 251 photos

Oregon's rugged coast goes mostly overlooked. With California's more renowned shore to the south, many remain ignorant of its many charms. It would likely be an empty paradise if it were not for the population of Oregon taking up temporary residence here each summer. With gorgeous bluffs around ever turn, scenic historical lighthouses dotting open stretches of coastal road, empty expansive wind swept beaches, and a small town friendliness permeating, who can blame them. While it may have escaped international prominence, it rarely fails to cast its spell on those who stumble across its path. And those stumbling are starting to whisper to themselves what the locals already know, that the Oregon Coast is one of the most beautiful places on this planet.

not just Newport

While Newport is one of the main hub cities on the Oregon Coast and many great sights are clustered around it, it is by no means the only area worth exploring. This page will cover from Reedsport in the upper realm of the South Oregon Coast up to its most northern town, Astoria. Along the way were some quaint lighthouses, beautiful beaches, great places to camp, tasty bites to eat and amazing suds to wash it all down with. The Oregon Coast is a great place to relax and unwind. It's an easy place to fall in love with too.

Gosh, we seem to have missed a lot of the OR coast - or maybe my memory isn't what it should be! Must dig out those old slides! Meanwhile thanks for the lovely virtual tour, though sadly virtual ice cream, cheese & beer just can't match the real thing ;-)

This is a coastline I've always wanted to visit and this excellent page was a great way to get some idea of its wonders! It seems you managed to find some excellent camping spots too! Beautiful photos of the natural attractions.

Interesting places here but hey, from your words, one must visit this place just for the Pelican :) Oh, to see the Sea Lions in Namibia is almost like in a private beach ;-)

Did not imagine the Newport region to be so scenic! Impressive sand dunes and beaches, the land of historic lighthouses! But the area seems well worth visiting also for those delicious cheeses, beers and blueberry cheesecake ice cream :))

No wonder I was so happy there: lighthouses, empty beaches along a rugged coast, smoked brie & porter, ice cream...and my favorite to share it with :)
