When you get right down to it, Queensland really is what Australia is all about for the intrepid backpacker. Sure, everyone wants to see Sydney and climb Ayers Rock, but it’s the trip up the Queensland coast that embodies Australia. It’s not just the scenery, with ample beautiful beaches and lush tropical forest; it’s the whole feel. Everywhere you go, there’s something you just “have to do.” Everyone else is going to do it, and you feel like you are going to miss out on something if you don’t. It’s a segment of Australia that most people do too. You could come to Australia for a two-week tourist vacation and you might fly into Sydney, go up the coast and fly home from Cairns, the northernmost main city in Queensland. For the traveler with more time, however, Queensland offers much more.

friend told me he lived here,had to see where it was. Bits missing on some tips but I got a good idea. I would like the cities too though :) starting with Brisbane. Take care in yr current travel Ciao!

You got it so right richie - overseas tourists just hit the big cities and miss all the great stuff in Queensland - not to mention the people. However - your comment about Brisbane is being worked on - travelogue to follow!
