New Orleans is a hard city to put a finger on. It is notoriously bawdy and home to some of the nation's biggest parties and yet it is renowned for its fine dining. You can be waited on by tuxedoed stiffs or pass out in the street and not even get noticed. Though it is easily has one of the country's most interesting and eclectic conglomerations of architecture, the charm is often lost on those who come to town to experience the “roll with it” attitude that makes the city a great place to unwind. But whether you come to indulge in creature comforts or to soak in old world charm, New Orleans rarely disappoints and that's saying something when the city conjures such high expectations. |
| there are plenty of empty streets if you look |
| | I had been here 14 years ago and had a good enough time considering I was in the throes of food poisoning. Though this return visit was a mere stopover on our way west during a six month trip around the US and hence short, it was nonetheless more enjoyable and showed us both that New Orleans at its heart is a romantic city with streets you can get lost on if you make even a minimal effort to escape the crowds. I'd like to go back again for a longer visit and hope it doesn't take me another 14 years to do so. |

Gili_S Thu May 21, 2009 16:32 UTC Great stories, good tips and the photos are beautiful. I know when my Weiss beer is good when I can have one on a sunny breakfast ;-) | toonsarah Tue May 19, 2009 18:00 UTC NO is high on my US wish-list (tho' not Chris's, sadly) and you've whetted my appetite further. I love all the balconies, Pat O'Brien's sounds like my kind of place and I'd happily drink Hurricanes and Red & Black Stallions | Bwana_Brown Thu May 14, 2009 19:30 UTC Great to see that life is returning to normal in New Orleans after Katrina. You managed some beautiful street scenes in your short time there and did very well in the food and drinks department too! A nice little page Richie. | Trekki Mon May 11, 2009 05:40 UTC Voodoo, great idea, but not for an ex more for those greedy subjects who are trying to pull our sweet world down to zero. Good to see that this lovely town got back its life :-) |
