Savannah harkens the visitor back to a bygone era in United States history when life was more refined and relaxed. There was a true division of the classes and it's not hard to see why those in the upper echelon were reluctant to give up their lifestyle that hinged on the inhumanity of slavery. Even with today's enlightened mentality, one can imagine what it was like to live in one of the stately homes that dot the city, with a full charge of servants at your beck and call. Modern Savannah remains a great place to wander around daydreaming of former times, enjoying the countless and timeless squares and tree strewn streets that seem to make up the entire fabric of this sleepy city. Add to that a fine array of restaurants and nightlife, and you have the making of a city not to be missed in a country that rests its laurels on nature at its best. |

Bwana_Brown Sun Jan 15, 2006 00:46 UTC Richie, a very nice time capsule from your past! Savannah is a place I've wanted to see too, instead of just a sleep-over spot after marathon 24-hr drives from Canada to Fla.! Charlie really was an Angel & I had not realized that you & D go back so far! | goingsolo Sat Nov 26, 2005 00:15 UTC You really brought out the charm of this city and its people in this very well done page. I'm looking forward to some of that home cooking when I visit. :) | zrim Thu Apr 1, 2004 03:42 UTC One of America's great cities. The place just oozes history. Now, if only it oozed beer as freely as it dispenses culture. | M0B1US Sat Nov 29, 2003 03:11 UTC I couldn't think of a better place to be stuck for a few days - great story and I must've missed that bloody brewpub! We had oysters and beers on River St instead... |
