The drive from Miami to Key West is one of the great trips in the eastern United States. Straddling the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, the narrow Over Seas Highway traverses forty-two bridges of varying lengths and numerous coral and limestone islands affectionately know as The Keys. The one hundred and fifty mile trip takes upwards of three and half hours, but a more leisurely pace is warranted with numerous sites to enthrall you. State parks offers glimpses of a more undeveloped time, but as a rule, the Keys remain a small town affair, with charming communities offering shops, restaurants, and bars to go along with the three staples that have drawn people here for years: diving, fishing, and sunsets. So, why not take your time and enjoy all the Keys has to offer. |
