Krakow is fast becoming a premier destination in not only Eastern Europe but also the continent as a whole. As one of the few cities to escape destruction during World War II, the fine old town harkens you back to a simpler time and its wealth of art treasures shores up its position as a city not to be missed. Add to this a funky counter-culture ambience and you have perhaps the backpacker’s dream that Prague once held but is gradually losing hold of each year as it crassly absorbs westernization. But what really seems to set it apart from the competition is its ease of use and general red carpet welcome. Its people just cannot seem to do enough for you and never do you feel as if you might be taken advantage of. This was one place where I felt like I was visiting royalty, indeed like a king. |
