Telc is a rare gem, it manages to be both quaintly unassuming and a place of unheralded magnificence. Though founded in the 14th century, a fire destroyed the town nearly a hundred years later, and as chance would have it, the reigning Governor of Moravia had the town rebuilt in the style of the Italian Renaissance. Though there were a few later additions, they were tastefully blended in and what you find on a visit today, is essentially a huge step back in time. You can literally wander the square as townspeople from a bygone era did. I imagine that on weekends in the summer, this must be a very busy little place but I was amazed to arrive at this picturesque square on Halloween day, and have it nearly to myself. You may not need more than a day to enjoy all the sights of this Moravian World Heritage listed wonder, but it is one day you cannot miss. If old world charm is why you travel to Europe, then Telc is certainly a must. |
