Bruges is certainly no longer an undiscovered gem. While it may not be wholly embraced as a required stop on the virgin European tour ala Rome, Paris and London, it nonetheless has come a long way from its sleepy incarnation of yesteryear. Once within its magical confines you’ll wonder how it remained removed from the mainstream for so long in the first place. After wandering its cobblestone streets many proclaim it their favorite European city of all they’ve fleetingly explored. An enchantingly romantic city, it has a fairy tale quality stemming from an array of medieval buildings dotting the picturesque canals that circle the old town like a series of moats. Adding to the charm of the inspiring sights are a plethora of romantic candle-lit cafes that make lingering in this beautiful city all too enticing. So what is it that keeps this pearl in the raw from joining the league of the ranks of requisite inaugural European stops? Well, it’s likely the same thing that keeps in from becoming an oppressive tourist trap. Restrained and classy shops, cafes that need not beg for your entrance, and perhaps most importantly locals that not only do not take advantage of you but also manage to not become too irritated that their fair city is increasingly being invaded by bigger crowds on a near daily basis.

As a former beer connoisseur, I truly appreciated your Brugge page. When I first visited Brugge back in 1997, I was a young American soldier who enjoyed the city's pubs.
Long live the digital Richie :-)) Great page and photos! And now you make me eager to pop by in Belgium some day again :-)
I have to go there one day. Ciao!
Your comments on Brugge are very accurate, Richie. Beautiful and romantic still, though a little "Disneyland" on the other side. Great photos, and again you saw everything !
The pics are wonderful Richie, I an see I'll be borrowing your camera next time we meet up!
I had heard the Brugge was well worth a visit, a city that does not normlly receive much press! Great updates and beautiful photos Richie. The colours and shades in your amazing Minnewater scene look almost unreal !
