| Utah has it all except an ocean |
To the uninitiated, Utah is likely to more than sneak up on, it may stun. Such is the grandiose nature of its exaggeratedly colorful landscapes. If the ancient ocean that formed the Entrada Sandstone and thus much of the state's surrealistic sights was still lapping wildly at its footsteps, Utah would perhaps eclipse the beauty of any imaginable place on earth. As it is, in its landlocked orientation, it rivals all of the western US for sheer natural beauty. Only Alaska and California have more National Parks and needless to say they are much bigger states, both with vast coasts. Not that Utah is small by any notion. |
| | The Wave is otherworldly The famed southern part of the state draws most of the visitors with its windswept vistas and otherworldly formations of a rainbow palate. The north has classic alpine scenery with large lakes, craggy snowy peaks, and dense evergreen forest. |
Native American past somewhat overshadowed Its Native American past has been somewhat overshadowed by the strong Mormon settler history intertwined in most people's perception of Utah, but few would travel this land of obvious spiritual beauty and deny that anyone who had ever laid eyes on it would have held it in special esteem. | | | strong Mormon past lingers |

toonsarah Mon Sep 7, 2009 15:48 UTC Great overview of a stunning state Richie. I'm beginning to think that we must go back there one day - not something we make a habit of doing. But for scenery like this ... | Bwana_Brown Wed Aug 26, 2009 11:24 UTC Richie, this is an excellent overview of the many amazing natural attractions that Utah has to offer! It is mind-bending to have so many 'must see' parks in one small part of the USA! Fantastic job here. | mircaskirca Sat Jul 18, 2009 14:41 UTC It must be fascinating to see all those parks, each with its specific appearance. Loved the colours and the shapes, at times fairy and at some other time moon-like rock formations. I enjoy camping too, the feeling of freedom and closeness to the nature :) | DoreenDe Sat Jul 18, 2009 00:27 UTC You really know how to make places look beautiful & wife's in uniform feel better :) Love the picture collection! |
