Sometimes it's hard for me to believe that this is part of the United States. Alaskans certainly consider themselves a separate entity. And they are a different breed. The flavor is distinctively American, but it's a flavor that the rest of the country is losing all too fast. It's a frontier, wild, wild west feel. The sheer physical beauty will startle you. The expansive wilderness is scary and reassuring at the same time. This is a place where you really can get away from it all. Enjoy it while you can and hope it never changes . . .
