Friends asked before my trip to Europe what countries I would visit and when I said the main focus of my upcoming travels would be Slovenia, my response was met with seemingly inane questions regarding not only where that was but exactly what it was. Of course, who was I to cast a downward glance when I was similarly ignorant just a few years earlier? But after reading a bit about this tiny dynamo of a country, I just knew I had to go. It sounded like it had everything; spectacular mountains with well maintained hiking trails, picturesque villages perpetually caught in time, beautiful lakes to rival any in the world, a mixture of architecture to give an impression of visiting more than one country and perhaps best of all, an incredibly friendly, helpful, and multilingual people. Yes, Slovenia is not a well-known destination but that has surely nothing to do with what the small country has to offer and offer at a fraction of the cost of neighboring Western European countries. With all the conveniences of the west and still retaining some eastern charm, Slovenia serves as the perfect introduction to the intrepid traveler venturing east. This page will focus on my travels in Triglav National Park and the nearby Kamnik Mountains as VT has little place for these worldly treasures, but will give a taste of what I found most amazing elsewhere and will expound on in future pages.

A note about the weather: If you come in the fall, you definitely do NOT need sunglasses - I remember not seeing the sun for weeks because of the fog....
