Italy’s Dolomites offers perhaps the most spectacular mountain scenery in all of Europe and the signature peaks that define the region are known as the Tre Cime or Drei Zinnen. These three jagged forces of nature protrude from their surroundings in rude fashion, leaving debris in all directions and demanding all to notice their rugged demeanor. But with such splendor comes the cost of being sought after by too many suitors and hence the area is overrun with tourists and more expensive than neighboring valleys. Still, if one plans well and is willing to get up at the crack of dawn, you can still have the area to yourself. What follows is a story of one such well-planned day. As with all my pages, this one makes more logical sense if you start your reading with "General Tips." |
