  • Street foods in Lima were probably the best in all of Peru. There were hawkers selling everything from slices of pineapple and watermelon to freshly cracked coconut meat. There were so many exotic fruits, it's hard to remember them all like cactus, which was cut open for you after you bought it. Baby beef heart kebabs were another tasty item as well as papa rellenas (a mashed potato filled with spicy meat). But picarones were my favorite. This photo is from a great little cart on the street, just outside the Mercado Central. It was crowded so we were just going to get our order and eat it while walking but the owner insisted we sit down and told a few guys to move over and give us seats. It was quite a show how they formed the dough rings and fried them, turning them with a wooden spoon. The anise-seeded delight was covered with a thin honey syrup just before seving them, piping hot. Beyond delicious and about 30 cents for an order of four!

A really fun page here Richie!! Great tips on the hotel, restaurants and your experiences here. And yes, you and D did have lots more trips after this one!! I had not realized that Lima had so much to offer.

Wonderful architecture and more this city has to offer. The catacombs look a bit weird :-) And at least here is a pic of famous Pisco - was missing it in your other Peru pages ;-) The hotel looks teriffic, too !!
