While it is true that Cali´s biggest claim to fame is for sweaty salsa, it is not marketed as a tourist spot even within this realm. In many ways, Cali is a local´s town that puts a bit of distance between itself and the ?rest of Colombia,? and though the country's third largest city, it lags considerably behind both Bogota and Medellin when it comes to foreign visitors. This cannot be written off solely to its reputation for danger since both of its big city rivals are not exactly considered safe. Oddly enough, despite this seeming indifference, Cali's residents are amongst the most friendly in already super friendly Colombia and anyone that takes time to explore the town will find a very pleasant place with all the amenities and comforts of a major metropolitan area tinged with the color that only Cali can exude. Cali may never join the ranks of top places to see in Colombia, but that's okay with Caleños. It is probably good for the visitors who do venture there too. For they will find a real slice of unspoiled Colombia, even if its decidedly Cali-style.

Am really enjoying your Colombian pages. My mother grew up in Cali and I visited the country a couple of times when I was kid but have not returned. I know I need to go back but it's nice to look at your wonderful photos and read your wonderfully written reviews until this happens!

Thanks for enjoying, Joann. It wasn't so easy to return but now it once again is and it really felt as safe as any number of SA countries I've been to. It's worth the trip just for the lulada!

This is what I'm hearing and thanks to Facebook I've reconnected with family I haven't seen in ages and connected with family I never met! I really am due for a trip back.

I love the colourful architecture (that green house with red door and windows!!) and the zoo looks really great. And while I'm itching to sample a lulada, the green mango sounds even better to me ;-)

All these fine new pages from your Colombian trip just keep coming and coming! You certainly got some great animal photos from the un-zoo-like Cali zoo. Glad you finally found some authentic lulada.

Wow, your animal photos are gorgeous!!! Haha, I had a bit of a deja vu, since I read Mira's Cali page some time ago and liked San Antonio already :-)) Oh my, I think I must come back, for the lula and drinks, and for empanadas :-)
