  • Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: If going in winter, make sure to bring warm clothes and especially a hat. Rain gear is essential too. It seems there's only two kinds of weather in the winter: cold and sunny with snow or cool and rainy. I prefer the former myself.

Photo Equipment: A wide angle lens is great not only for landscape photography, but also for getting good shots of buildings, which are often too close to fit into conventional lenses. A tripod is essential for getting good shots at night.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Hiking boots for the Elbsandsteingebirge.

Miscellaneous: A great local guide like D, she's the best.

Great tips Richie. I'm looking forward to visit some of your tips later this year.

How disappointing, I found some of your tips didn't even mention "beer"! Lift your game. Cheers.

oops, I almost missed your updates here :-) But you still make me want to go to Saxony in winter - looks gorgeous ! How come that I missed Schlafmützchen beer on my first read ? Cute name :-)))

Richie, another beer tour-de-force combined with an excellent overview of Saxony! The cities have some amazing architectural delights but the landscape of the rugged Elbsandsteingebirge blew me away! Konigstein fortress looks very impressive too!
