Warnings Or Dangers: short cold days of winter in Saxony

  • Being from Florida, I relished a chance to see some snow and I more than got my share of it this winter. What was hard to get used to was how early it got dark! This photo was taken on a late afternoon hike, with the sun already going down. When this happened and the wind kicked up, it sure did get cold. But for scenes like this, it was worth it. Afterward, you could retreat to our cozy flat and have something warm.

  • The sand stone nature of the peaks of the Elbsandsteingebirge makes for some very steep peaks indeed and only through man made "aids," such as ladders and cables can you get to the top of some of them. But it is a great area for climbers who use aids of their own like ropes that they fix. It's good to stay on the trails as the drop offs are quite sudden. As you can see here.....

Great tips Richie. I'm looking forward to visit some of your tips later this year.

How disappointing, I found some of your tips didn't even mention "beer"! Lift your game. Cheers.

oops, I almost missed your updates here :-) But you still make me want to go to Saxony in winter - looks gorgeous ! How come that I missed Schlafmützchen beer on my first read ? Cute name :-)))

Richie, another beer tour-de-force combined with an excellent overview of Saxony! The cities have some amazing architectural delights but the landscape of the rugged Elbsandsteingebirge blew me away! Konigstein fortress looks very impressive too!
