At 4090 meters, Potosi is the highest city in the world and once it rested equally high with regard to its wealth and prosperity. Though it was certainly one of the richest cities in Latin America and probably the world due to the silver laden hills surrounding it, Potosi fell into decline when Bolivia strove for independence. This led to mass looting, even of the beautiful churches that silver bestowed on the once burgeoning city. But even in decline, it is a wealthy city by Bolivian standards. Due to an abundance of colonial architecture especially in the form of numerous impressive churches, UNESCO placed Potosi on the World Heritage List. With its rich mining history and timeless narrow streets, it is certainly a worthwhile place for travelers to Bolivia to explore.

Hola Richie! I had forgotten that the restaurant you wrote about was Dona Eugenia. I also tried to walk there but gave up. I asked the guide to go there the next day. The kala phurka is great!

Hahaha... Love the "quick pic and run from the shoeshine boy". I can so relate to that. Funny. I'll certainly have a few questions for you regarding an upcoming trip to Bolivia. Great job!

Good story about the restaurant! The soup sounds great but I'd pass on the fatty pork.
