Augsburg’s claims to fame include being one of the three oldest cities of the German speaking world, founded by the Roman Empire in 15 BC, and originator of the onion-shaped domes that spread throughout southern Germany after first appearing on the St. Maria Stern Kloster. Conveniently located an hour from Munich and at the base of the Romantic Road, it draws more tourists than perhaps its sights warrant. It’s worth a stop if you are in Munich for a prolonged period or if you are heading north and want to spend an afternoon. |
