Augsburg Travel Guide: 219 reviews and 528 photos
Augsburg’s claims to fame include being one of the three oldest cities of the German speaking world, founded by the Roman Empire in 15 BC, and originator of the onion-shaped domes that spread throughout southern Germany after first appearing on the St. Maria Stern Kloster. Conveniently located an hour from Munich and at the base of the Romantic Road, it draws more tourists than perhaps its sights warrant. It’s worth a stop if you are in Munich for a prolonged period or if you are heading north and want to spend an afternoon.

Seems to be a nice place! We'll visit it on the way to Legoland
Richie... if you need someone to go drink Bavarian beer with, I'm your huckleberry.
hi richie, it seems that it is impossible to visit a place in germany without you having been there before... :) i've just come back from southern germany (including augsburg). are you still in dresden? if yes, please tell me.
Sunday opening hours (or the lack of them) can be such a pain!
Well actually, I will be in Augsburg next Sunday. Thanks for the warning, though. Now I at least know what to expect. -- Greetings from Frankfurt.
hannah was a sport except for the language thing! i wonder if alligator bock would be good with alligator meat??
Beer and a lot of history! Very good tips and interesting destination!
This is on my " to see list " so appreciate the info. Especially the recommendation on not to visit on Sundays. Thanks as always, Rich.
Very interesting page! Hey, didn't know that Augsburg claims to be one of the three oldest cities of Germany.
I didn't know that about the onion domes, interesting.
