Off The Beaten Path: Little Venice
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Not only is Bamberg blessed with an abundance of beautiful architecture but it is also scenically set on a lovely river. This one stretch is dubbed Little Venice and though it bears little resemblence to its namesake, it is nonetheless a pretty place to get off the beaten path.

Off The Beaten Path: The nearby village of...
  • Tip Rating:
  • The nearby village of Buttenheim is home to two of the best brewpubs in the area and some of the driest, most hoppy beers in Germany. Both offer accomodation and are on the same street so it's a worthwhile one night stand if you are on your way from Bamberg to Nuremberg. Brauerei Gasthof Lowenbrau at Mark-str. 8 is the more down to earth place and Brauereigaststatte St. Georgen at Mark-str. 12 is a bit more upscale though not haughty in the least. Both of their Kellerbiers are a must for any lover of hoppy bitter brews. This is St. Georgen pictured and thanks to Doreen for stopping here on our way back to Munich.

We're going to Bamberg tomorrow. Thinking of staying across from Fassla at Spezial Brewery. It's cheaper. Good location?

A very interesting and informative page about a beautiful town.

This looks like an amazing destination based on location and architecture alone, esp. the Ales Rathaus on the bridge! I like the sound of those smoky beers too. Great restaurant tips & tho I've heard of BYOB, never Bring Your Own Sausage!
