Kilmartin Travel Guide: 44 reviews and 185 photos

If you have read some of my pages you will know that I love standing stones. stone circles and the mystery and magical feeling of them. So when we visited Scotland this year and stayed along the shores of Loch Fyne I just had to visit Klimartin. This is a tiny little village with a very long and very interesting hostory ...... and lots of standing stones!

There are in fact more than 150 prehistoric sites surrounding this little village. In an area of 6 miles around the village you can find burial cairns, standing stones, stone circles, rock carvings, ancient grave stones, early Christian crosses, medieval castles and the fortress of the very early Scottish kings - I had to go explore.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:wonderful prehistoric remains
  • Cons:the weather can be a con - you have to walk to these remains
  • In a nutshell:fantastic all these old things!!
