I have always had an interest in all things travel, from world food's to local and regional traditions. I prefer to experience with that off the beaten track feel to it as i think this is what real travel is about. Getting to know locals and their daily lives is what excites me most. To this day i have not visited a place more breathtaking than Zell am See/Kaprun in the Salzburg region of Austria. Since that trip back in 1995 i have always had an appetite to travel whenever possible.
I feel very lucky to have been born in Wales and into a country that boasts so much beauty and a unique sense of humor. We have 3 spectacular but very different national parks, 2 mountainous and one coastal. Snowdonia is our most famous and is situated in North West Wales close to Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsula. It soars above the land at an impressive 3,560ft and is one of Wales's most iconic images.
Either side of the spine of this mountainous region are both breathtaking river valleys and coastal resorts. For such a small country, each region of Wales boasts very different ways of life. Traditions are becoming more popular with the interest in Heritage, Myths and Legends. Ask any Welsh person about Myths and Legends and they might suggest finding a nice cosy pub and a good pint to accompany their story.
Wales has also established itself as a country that produces award winning food and drink. I'll be the first to admit that us Welsh love a drink and most celebrations are accompanied by a cheeky one or two ; ) Cardiff is home to our most famous brewery 'Brains' which brews traditional strong ales.
If you happen to arrive in Wales during the Six Nations rugby tournament during February and March, don't be startled. It is our ultimate party occasion. Rugby is the heartbeat of the Welsh nation and is held in the highest regard by all Welsh.
There are just to many things to mention about Wales to put into an overview of the country. I hope this has wetted your appetite for a visit to this wonderful part of the world. I will be posting more detailed guides and tips about regions of Wales very soon. If you would like any tips to help you with your trip, please feel free to send me a request and i will be happy to give you all the information i can.
Gweld Chi'n Hwyrach....See you soon in Welsh :)
