Reunion Island, formely called Ile Bourbon is a french overseas country, located in the Indian Ocean, to the east of Madagascar (have a look to the above map).
A very pleasant island to live.
I have done my military service in Reunion in 1995 for 10 months and I was impressed by so much beauty.
Two principal things, which brings its great quality of life:
- The mix of its population, which is composed of différent ethnic groups: black slave descendants, and the descendants of white pionners who colonized the island. Chinese, Indian immigrants, all these people brought their own culture and religion which now constitutes a great melting-pot.
- Otherwise, the landscape is wonderful: there are great mountains, where you can admire waterfalls, the beaches are beautiful, and of course you can escape from the lunar landscape of the volcano.
Landscape are so different from each other. 3 famous circus, you have to visit when going to Reunion:
- Salazie,
- Mafate and
- Cilaos
and also, of Course, the volcano : "Le Piton de la Fournaise"
