    Getting TO/AROUND: Denver Airport is located about 30mi/50km east of downtown. Getting to and from downtown/the airport you can use the RTD Skyride service. The pickup/drop off locations at DIA have changed, as of Sept 7, 2003. They drop off between doors 507 and 511 on the east side of the terminal. The pick up spot is now located thru door 507 on island 5.

    For schedules go to www.rtd-denver.com . The trips to/from downtown cost $8. These buses serve other parts of the metro area as well. If your taking an RTD (Skyride) bus to the airport you pay the driver (cash only - have exact change).

    Greyhound also has 3-4 trips a day to the airport from downtown. Buy tickets for these buses at the station or online at: www.greyhound.com
    RTD and Greyhound can accomodate luggage. RTD has bike racks on the front of their buses. They can hold 2 bikes. They can also accomodate large luggage under the bus

    There are several taxi companies: Yellow Cab, phone 303-777-7777. Metro cab 303-333-3333.

    E-tickets:
    I was told (by ppl onine) that I could bring my e-ticket printout right to the gate and get my ticket. You can't do that. You have to either go to the ticket counter or go to those machines where you run your credit card thru and it issues the ticket. (I didn't see any of these. Where are they?)
    When you get your ticket at the gate you only get the ticket for the flight that day. If you have a return ticket you have to go to the ticket counter on the day of that flight to get that ticket.
    My opinion: Thats a pain in the a**, especially during holidays when the lines are miles long. There's no convenience in those tickets.

    Getting TO/AROUND: The Greyhound station is located in downtown Denver at 19th and Stout. You can get buses to all destinations in the midwest and western US from here.
    Heres some sample trips and travel times:

    Los Angeles: 4 trips daily. Travel time: 24 hours
    San Francisco: 4 trips, 28 hours
    Portand, OR: 4 trips 28 hours
    Chicago: 4 trips 24 hours
    Dallas: 4 trips 19 hours

    The biggest things to know is that the station is closed from midnight to 6am. There are buses that come and go during this time, but if you need to buy a ticket, or anythting like that, these services aren't available late at night. If you are waiting to transfer you'll be stuck outside with (basically) nowhere to go and nothing to do

    ~~~
    See my USA intro page for all the general Greyhound information a traveler needs.
    To find a telephone go to the 19th street entrance. If you're comming from the street, the phones are on the right. One of those phones is equipped with a TTY machine. (Those are phones specially equipped for the deaf).
    Transportation: Taxi
    Getting TO/AROUND: There are two main taxi companies in the Denver area - Yellow Cab, and Metro Cab. If you are at the airport or a downtown hotel you should be able to find one waiting for a fare, otherwise you have to call them.
    Downtown to DIA: The fare is a flat rate of $45!! The driver must run the meter (for insurance reasons), but no matter what the meter says, its $45. If you share a ride it's $45 for the first two passengers, then theres a fee of $0.20 for each additional passenger. If a driver tells you otherwise, he/she is wrong.
    I split a fare with 2 guys from South Africa and somehow we got soaked for $75 on what we thought should be $45. We all felt screwed.
    If you think you're being treated unfairly get the taxi number and the drivers name. Call your complaint to the main taxi phone number and ask for a supervisor. Don't get screwed, as I did.
    Transportation: Local bus
    Category: Bus
    Getting TO/AROUND: Denver's bus system (RTD) works best if you based in the downtown area.
    For any information (schedules, fares, etc) see the phone number and web site below. To pcik up shedules or talk to an RTD employee in person you can go to the Civic center station or the Market Street station.
    The Civic Center station is located at the south end of the 16th St mall (take the free shuttle to the end of the line). The Market Street station is located at 16th and Market (take the free shuttle to the north end of the line). You'll be able to find any and all schedules for buses in the RTD system. You'll also be able to purchase any passes etc.
    All monthly passes and 10 ticket coupon books (pay for 10 bus rides at a time) can be purchased at any King Soopers store in the Denver metro area (See my must see King Soopers tip)
    All buses have bike holders on the front of the bus. These can be used at no extra charge, but it is your responsibility to load and unload your bike. The driver is not allowed to assist you. You can bring a bicycle on the light rail trains during off peak hours - it doesn't cost extra. They just ask that you board at the back of the train.
    All buses are wheelchair accessable (except maybe the 16th St mall buses??)
    Getting TO/AROUND: This is the Amtrak train station for Denver. There are only two trains per day that come thru the city. One is eastbound to Chicago and one westbound to SanFrancisco.
    Getting TO/AROUND: These trains go from 30th & Downing streets (nr downtown) to Santa Fe & Mineral (southern metro Denver) every 15 minutes or so - depending on the time of day.
    Fares $1.25 for all stops between downtown and Hampden Ave. and $2.50 for any trip further south than that. Bicycles are allowed on the trains, but only in the rear cars and only during non peak hours.
    Getting TO/AROUND: Denver has many miles of off street bike paths. If you have good legs and a good map you can find your way from Chatfield Reservoir to Barr Lake (50mi/80km) and many places in between
