If you're looking for a small town attitude this is the place. Don't look for anything trendy and in general the community is neatly 5 - 10 years behind the trend both in technology, fashion, and attitude. I must agree with Forsberg21 that culture diversity is not a priority in this small town. Do be prepared to be stared at and receive a few racial slurs. Their definition of diversity is to import Somalians, Mexicans, and others to do the work they prefer not to do but export them elsewhere to live.
It's not likely that you'll get mugged or physically attracted, however do be prepared for the odd comment or remark local people consider amusing. People here are incredibly inconsiderate on a regular basis to people who appear to have a different ethnicity than themselves. Not only they inconsiderate, don't expect any manners either. Especially if you arrive in a luxury car that from their point of view is reserved only for their upper class. The only other place I was pulled over more times to have my car inspected was Peachtree, GA and there at least they had the courtesy saying "Sir" and "Please". Here it was "Get out of the car and stand in front". Apparently any one of any color driving a luxury car is automatically a gang member, drug dealer, and sex offender. (Long story but my brother who was also visiting for a graduation had to explain that it was indeed my niece in the car with me...hum?)
In general this is a perfect example of a small cliquish town, where its obvious that those whom are part of the in-crowd are welcome and treated quite differently from those whom are considered outsiders. A place only to visit if you have a relative graduating from the local community college, university, high school, or perhaps a wedding. Oh yes they do have a major rodeo event if that is your thing and the locals are at their best behaviour for a period of 7 days as I am told by some of the locals.
Otherwise Greeley is a place to avoid as there are other places in Northern Colorado that are more open minded and welcoming to outsiders.
- Pros:Locally owned resturants are very inexpencive and interesting food.
- Cons:Hotels are a little pricey in concideration the lack of quality rooms and services.
- In a nutshell:Small town attitude - small cliquish town - visit yes - vacation no.
