St. George, Utah's southern outpost. - Saint George

St. George is unlike any other town in Utah because of its elevation and climate. It sits just over 2,000 feet and has more in common with Las Vegas and Mesquite, Nevada than the rest of Utah. The red rock surroundings are fabulous to look at and drive through.

Itw as originally settled by the Mormons in 1861 as a stopping point on the intended trading route to the Pacific Ocean in California. The region is called Utah's Dixie because cotton and other heat tolerant crops had to be grown early on. Population in the late-90's was just over 46,000 making it a major Utah city.
