The oldest area in Sydney, is known as "The Rocks".
It's the original area, where the British arrived in Australia in the late 1700s.

There are lots of wonderful old buildings, narrow alleyways, cobblestoned streets, cafes and restaurants, fascinating old pubs, weekend markets with free live music.

"The Rocks" is a short walk from downtown.

Each year the day after Christmas marks the beginning of a famous yacht race, the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

This tradition has been taking place for over 60 years. Yachts come from all over the world to compete.

This year I had my first experience of being onboard a spectator boat, positioned near the starting line on Sydney Harbour. It was very exciting.

If you are in Sydney at this time of year I recommend viewing the start of the race, either from a spectator boat or one of the many vantage points around the harbour.
