During Summer Vacation 2011 with the kids, we stayed 2 nights in Big Sur at the Fernwood Resort. We wanted just a place to stay so we could explore the hiking trails and beautiful scenery on this section of Highway 1. Absolutely Breathtaking!
This is the only public access beach in there area. There are no signs to the turn off from Highway 1. Our friend who is a park ranger told us about it. One or two turnoffs North of the Post Office, there is a really steep side road going downhill. It's a couple miles down to the beach. A hidden gem.
McWay Falls is a must see when in the Big Sur Area. You can hike along the coast, or amongst the redwoods. This little cove of beach is not accessible, but the views are spectacular, and a short walk from the road.
