Easily reachable from Catania through a fast motorway, Ragusa, capital of the same named province, is a nice town of about 70000 in population, set on multiple hills of the Iblean Mountains.
Divided in two parts, Ragusa preserves in the most ancient part (Ragusa Ibla), rebuilt after the earthquake of 1693, an important sample of baroque architecture.
In the higher and newer part, characterized by three bridges suspended on an ample and green valley, baroque architecture leaves plenty of space to buildings typical of modern urbanization.
The economics of the town are mainly based on agriculture, chemical industry and oil extraction.
Tourism is also becoming an important aspect of the town's economic expansion. The territory is in fact blessed with a mild climate and a variety of cultural and artistic patrimony. |
