Rooster House in Manukan

MANUKAN TOWN
This Rooster House is the Historical Landmark of the municipality of Manukan. Manukan is one of the twentyfive Municipalities of Zamboanga del Norte which ic located in the Island of Mindanao the southernpart of the Philippine Archipelago.

The word Manukan which means Poultry House or Poultry Farm derives from the Subano word "Banukan". Before the Spaniards came to the Philippines this place was originally named Banukan which was only a small barrio and formerly a part of Dapitan (presently the twin City of Dipolog City). After the neighboring town Katipunan became a Municipality this barrio "Banukan" was then changed into a barangay or village.
The fact that lots of chicken were produced in this area it supplied almost the complete part of the northern Mindanao. Later on the name Banukan was automatically converted into Manukan. The economic stability of the area was improved and increased the population. The people who live in this barangay tried their best to convert this village into an independent Municipality. On June 1951 it was inaugurated as a full-pledged Municipality and these 22 Barangays comprised the Town of Manukan
