Luggage and bags: Just bring your standard moutaineering style backpack...4000 cubic inches is enough to pack everyting you need. It really depends on the amount of time you spend bumming around but if you think you need you probablly dont....so don't bring to much weight.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: 2 dark colored pair of pants (preferablly the kind that covert into shorts), swim trunks, 3 short sleeved shirts (button up's or t's are both fine). 3 socks, and 3 underwear. Bring one light weight rain poncho, a pair of durable hiking boots and some throw away shoes or sandles.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: They have everyting you can imagine there so buy it there...it's cheaper. If you must bring something in your pack then one bar of soap, a little container of shampoo, a comb, toothbrush & paste, and that should be it.
Photo Equipment: 35mm camera. If you want good pictures then bring a good camera. Try one of those light weight Canon Eos Rebels with a 28-210 mm lens.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: maybe a sheet sewed up on the side to make a lightweight sleeping bag to protect you from any dirty beds you may encounter. They have silk sleeping sacks that cut down on weight alot.
Miscellaneous: Pack light!!!!! It's hot and humid in Vietnam and you will be dirty..just face it. You'll just work up more of a sweat if you are lugging a huge pack stuffed with useless items.
