My arrival in Dhaka was somewhat spur of the moment. My buddy and I were plotting our next destination while sitting in a Bangkok travel agency. I looked over the large wall map and for some reason decided Dhaka, Bangladesh would be our next stop. A day or two later we were in Dhaka but we had the misfortune of not having a guidebook or even a clue as to where to go and what to see upon our arrival here. We arrived at ZIA International airport on Binman Airlines with no visa. We applied for a visa upon arrival and ended up paying apx. $15 usd to an official there at the airport. The Customs & Immigration guards attempted to get more money from us but we refused and showed them our 2 week tourist visa had already been paid for so they let us pass without any more complications. After collecting our backpacks we walked aimlessly down the road and soon found we were the only Westerners in sight. That wasn't much of a shock but deciding where to go next was pretty daunting thanks to the chaos in the streets around us. Not one english word was spoken within earshot and the hustle and bustle was just amazing..even daunting. We knew instantly that we were headed for an amazing adventure and a serious challenge. After loitering out on the street in front of ZIA Intl. we finally found a pedi-cab driver who understood that we wanted to go to Topkhana Rd. The drive there took us through a maze of densly packed streets filled with rickshaws, pedi cabs, people, and smog. Our first day in Dhaka was truly an out of this world experience. - Cons:pollution & overcrowding may take a toll on you

Lots of serious info and many of those photos show the tough life most people lead, yet they can smile and appear happy. Thanks for the effort you made to show us life in Dhaka.

Air Pollution is improved. Beacuse 2 stroke vehical has banned.
That are some very cheap hotels...but i know all about having to be in the mood for a cheap hotel with a run down hotel room...
