I've spent most of my life living near Tampere, actually approximately 50 kilometres from it in a little village called Urjala (check out my Urjala page for more info). I've been visiting Tampere numerous times in my life. Tampere is originally an industrial city but nowadays Tampere offers great culture, shopping opportunities and trendy cafes and restaurants. The city is very tight with everything in walking distance.

Tampere is ever growing city with many possibilities. Tampere is dynamic and has changed a lot since my younghood. Altough Tampere is still very peaceful and a safe place to live in. People living in Tampere are the happiest people in Finland according to one survey.

Tampere has 200.000 inhabitants. One thing which makes Tampere unique is the red brick building around city centre. Those are the former factories and mills which are transformed as flats, boutiques, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, theatres etc. They are so beautiful, old and at the same time very modern buildings. The industrial heritage is a very important part of city's history.
