It's possible to visit Pattaya just for a daytrip from Bangkok. Take an aircondioned bus in the morning from Bangkok and come back in the evening. The bus trip takes approximately 2 and half hours. There's not much to see when driving from Bangkok to Pattaya so it's good time to rest your feet and sleep.
Pattaya is negatively well-known for its sex tourism and you can notice "it" everywhere there. I was amazed how many western middle-aged or over men where there apparently to find a companion or just to have fun. The beach didn't impress me at all because it was dirty and crowded. That wasn't my kind of place altought the weather was hot and nice.
