Settlements in what is now the city existed in the Roman period, and
even in prehistoric times. This is confirmed by a number of objects found during archaeological research. This is quite understandable considering the fertility of the land and wealth of fish in the river.
The first mention of Brcko found in Turkish documents from 1548. when he ceases to be a border fortress and became a stop on the way from Salt Venetian Obrovac. Already 1560th name Barka town on the Sava riverbank writes Flemish geographer Gerhard Kremer, author of the first maps of the world, and for this period is tied and the beginning of the development of trade in Brcko. In all periods, the city was an important crossroads.
Old part of town along the banks of the Sava and Brke thirties 19th century saw a rapid development, due primarily to the export of raw and dry plums, and Brcko but the 1870th becomes a powerful trading center.

It is funny oral folks legends about the name of city. One legend says that the girls were splatter (Serbian: брчкање, read - brchkanje) in the river when they were young mans secretly watched. According to another legend, the city was named after a splatter (Serbian: брчкање, read - brchkanje) whiskered guys (Serbian: бркати момци, read - brkati momci) in the river.

Brcko District was officially established on 8 March 2000, one year after an international arbitration for Brcko. Brcko District was formed on the whole territory of the former municipality of Brcko. The center of District is a Brcko city.

Also, the same status are expected for the building of a primary school that had been previously placed Merchant Academy, the Palace of Palestine, as well as the Church of the Holy Virgin in factory Majevica in Grčić village.
For now, Commission to Preserve National Monuments keep records of cultural and historical heritage for the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina and define the so-called provisional list of 20 objects from the District, as a whole, and one ambient.
