Neustadt an der Weinstrasse is a charming, mid-size town full of picturesque half-timbered houses, especially around the historic market-place. With its population of about 54,000 it is the largest Neustadt (new town) of many towns called Neustadt in Germany. Neustadt an der Weinstrasse is not only a lovely town but it's located in a lovely area as well, surrounded by wonderfully scenic vineyards as a part of its name indicates: an der Weinstrasse (on the Wine Route).

Since Neustadt is close to where I live, we frequently visit there and enjoy strolling along the cute little streets in downtown or sitting in one of the open-air restaurants in the summer, drinking a glass of tasty, chilled, local wine and eating a delicious asparagus dish, one of the local specialties. Neustadt is proud and very happy to have one of the warmest climates in Germany. Summer temperatures of 30 - 35 °C are common and excellent for wine growing. That's why wine, good food and tourism are some of the most important factors for the economy of Neustadt and the surrounding region.

In my opinion Neustadt a perfect place, not only if on a summer's day a traveler...but for a relaxing visit all year round. Even in the winter you might encounter several sunny and mild days, pleasant enough for a downtown stroll followed by a nice cup of coffee or a glass of good wine in one of Neustadt's cafés or restaurants.
