"Marsaxlokk" Marsaxlokk by Aunt_Bertha

Marsaxlokk is one of Malta's traditional fishing villages and it might as well be the most famous, most picturesque and most colorful village. It is located in the south-east of Malta. It's definitely one of my favorite places in Malta, although I have so many favorite places on that island that I've decided to make all of Malta and Gozo my favorite place! :-)

In the bay of Marsaxlokk you can admire boatloads of those wonderfully colourful, traditional fishing boats called luzzu. These are my absolutely favorite boats! The eyes painted on the luzzus supposedly are protection from the evil eye that may be cast on the boat and its owner by...well, by whom or what? Perhaps by a giant shark or a sea-monster? ;-)

Marsaxlokk is quite a picturesque place with delicious seafood restaurants and a bustling Sunday market (of course, I visited there on a Sunday as I didn't want to miss the market) where you can find just about anything from fish, groceries, local produce, clothes and souvenirs. How about an eye against the evil eye, a small, handcrafted luzzu, or a giant shark?

By the way, Marsaxlokk is about a 35-minute drive away from Valletta and definitely worth visiting.
