Nearly a thousand of years ago there lived a King in Denmark whose son and daughter fell in love with each other. Learning of their forbidden love the King decided to banish the Princess from the country. He ordered her to be taken aboard a ship and the ship finally rescued from the storm to the shores of Estonia.
The Princess liked the place so much she decided to build a town here. She hired people from the neibourghood to build a splendid castle for her and then a town around the castle. A lot of people came here, and the town grew and prospered.
When the King of Denmark heard this he decided to forgive her. He also wanted to extend this authority over his possession. But the people of the Princess turned Kingīs men out, remaining masters of the town.
Ever since that time the town has been known as Taani Linn - Danish Fort. . . .
All legends found here have been heard from some of my Estonian friends or read from: The Devilīs Wedding and Other Legends about Tallinn; I. Goldman and P. Kaldoja, Perioodika 1985
