THE FAMOUS RIVER KWAI BRIDGE It's only after the hitbox film in 1950s' that tourists started their -pilgrimage- to see that famous bridge. A trip to Kanchanaburi which is about 155 kilometers west of Bangkok takes approximately 3 hours by car over a good road or 4 hours by train.
There is also the JEATH War Museum(=stands for 6 countries involved in the second world war : Japan, England, America, Australia, Thailand and Holland
The museum was built by a monk of Wat Chai Chumpol in the form of a replica of Allied POW's quarters in a Death Railway detention camp - a long bamboo hut with earthen floor, like a henhouse. Raised narrow bamboo bunks lining the two walls, serving as the living space.
On the walls are enlarged reproductions of photos taken during the railway construction and also paintings of the atrocities inflicted on the POW's. There are also collections of World war II Artifacts found in the area, including the blown-out shell of the bomb that was supposed to have downed the Bridge Over the River Kwai. |
| | I must say visiting this museum just before lunch-time was a big mistake - I couldn't eat anything!
That museum is also called - death-museum! |
