Is there a place from your childhood that seems bigger and brighter in your memory than it probably is in reality? For me, I have a feeling, the Wisconsin Dells is such a place. I imagine that going there today would not be quite the experience it was for me when I was a boy. I don't have any current information or advice on what to see and do while visiting, but I can say that if you have kids they'll love it!

I remember the natural beauty of the river and the rocky terrain. I remember the way the park used the natural landscape instead of creating something terribly unnatural. I remember playing miniature golf. I remember my parents getting very excited at one attraction which featured statues of characters from the Bible (they reminded me of the Pirates of the Carribean ride at Disneyland). I remember asking my mom many times after this trip, "when are we going back to The Dells?"

Happy Birthday Mark! Maybe it is appropriate that I stumbled across this old page on some childhood memories of yours! Wisconsin is a part of the USA that I have yet to visit - impressive Saloon!

I have been to the Dells many times, which reminds me, I should write my own page. This place is a family wonderland. Try the Wildnerness Resort sometimes, its fantastic.

I was working two summers in the Dells with an University exchange program. Certainly It's a nice spot for kids. I kept really good memories of this small town. (Your General Tips picture is Story Book Gardens)

By coincidence I was also taken to Wisconsin Dells (more than once) when I was a child, but haven't been there since. The Dells were a much needed stop on our trips to Minocqua, so my father's 1936 Oldsmobile could cool down.

I LOL when I read that Wisconsin Dells seemed bigger than it really is from childhood memories..so true. Kids do love it, and it just keeps growing. Thanks for a sweet stroll down your memory lane.

Mark, I knew it - - - YOU've been here. I didn't understand it first, why from ORD, we are heading directly here...Later on I found out, it's my 7-yr old niece's birthday wish. After that, no more questions asked. I had a wonderful time.
