In the early nineties I was an undergraduate at the University of California, Riverside. Now UCR is not exactly known as a party school, so occasionally on yet another party-less friday night, we'd get a small group together and head to Vegas. It was fun jumping in the car at nine or ten o'clock at night and getting to Vegas after midnight! We'd walk in to one of the many casinos along the Strip, all of us legally too young to gamble, and sit down at a blackjack table as if we belonged. Within minutes a scantily clad waitress would come along and offer us a drink and the night would begin. I was smart enough to never bring more than fifty bucks, realizing that if I lost it, I could rationalize my loss as fifty dollars spent for some quality entertainment. Fortunately, that turned out to be true. Ninety percent of the time, I ended up kissing my fifty goodbye, but that was okay with me because Vegas has to be one of the best people-watching cities in the world. Whether strolling up and down the Strip, shopping at Caesar's Palace, or hanging around the high-roller's table, you'll definitely see some interesting characters. |
