"Stillwater. The perfect day trip." Stillwater by acemj
Stillwater Travel Guide: 36 reviews and 57 photos
Stillwater is a quaint and peaceful town along the banks of the St. Croix River on the Minnesota-Wisconsin border. More importantly, it is the birthplace of Minnesota. On August 26, 1848, the territory of Minnesota was ratified at a the Territorial Convention in Stillwater.
It's a great place for a day excursion from the hustle and bustle of the Twin Cities. You'll discover a lot of history, a charming Main Street and a great riverside location.
If you head outside of town, you'll find some excellent canoeing, hiking and photography opportunities in the St. Croix River Valley region.

Somewhat of a must-see. Well, it's kind of hard to miss and it's a local landmark. I think it's great for photos too. more travel advice

Mark, an 'oldie' but a nice vignette of life in the mid-west! I like the looks of that old lift-bridge contraption and the small town feel of Stillwater. There are so many interesting spots like this just waiting out there!
Great tips on Stillwater. Wonderful town!!
I hate that damn paddleboat. But Stillwater is a lovely place. Doesn't it make you homesick for Minnesota, Mark?
So this is what the fuss is all about. . .
The Grain Elevator is the Great Midwestern Icon! Sort of the Light house of the flatlands! Looks like a cool bit of Americana here!!
I love my day trips....peaceful, and when picking the right spot not many tourists around :-)) you picked a fine spot too Mark, thanks for sharing
This town is wonderfully set in those hills and I love the idea of an ice cream and summer stroll:-) The books store sounds great and I love paddleboats. I'd hate to see things modernised.
It seems time has stood still in Stillwater. Very pretty pictures!
You can't remember the name? Are you getting older? Hehe...
I say keep the bridge as it is. Change for the sake of change is ridiculous.
